Deck overview

Maular, the Next Evolution leads a high-mana creature deck that uses extensive green ramp to reach seven-mana plays ahead of curve. Once Maular attacks, every attacking creature with mana value 7 or greater has its power and toughness doubled, making cards such as Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant, Ghalta and Mavren, Craterhoof Behemoth, and Zopandrel, Hunger Dominus especially threatening. The list also has strong creature-based card flow from Beast Whisperer, Guardian Project, The Great Henge, Vaultborn Tyrant, and Up the Beanstalk. Its main weakness is that its best draws require several expensive cards to work together. The commander is costly, combat is exposed to removal and blockers, and there is no compact infinite combo or reliable table-wide lock. The deck can create overwhelming board states and occasionally produce a lethal attack, but ordinary execution more often establishes pressure than a guaranteed finish.
