Deck overview

This mono-black control deck turns Horobi, Death's Wail into a ruthless board-policing engine. Horobi's ability destroys any creature that becomes the target of a spell or ability. The deck leverages this symmetrical effect by deploying innocuous, low-cost repeatable targeting artifacts like Squee's Toy, Hex Parasite, Liquimetal Torque, and Cauldron of Souls. With Horobi in play, these cards become instant-speed, repeatable creature removal for little to no mana. A single cast of Touch of Darkness wipes the entire opposing creature board for one black mana. The deck breaks parity by funneling mass creature deaths into game-ending payoffs like Revel in Riches, Grave Betrayal, and Syr Konrad, the Grim. Utility cards like Nowhere to Run and Glaring Spotlight strip opposing hexproof, ensuring no creature escapes. While Horobi itself is fragile and vulnerable to any opposing targeting effect, the deck uses non-targeting protection and reanimation to maintain an iron grip on the board.
