Merfolk by Hellzpyro

Format: Commander

Commander: Hakbal of the Surging Soul

Bracket: 2

Deck overview

This is a Simic Merfolk tribal deck built around Hakbal of the Surging Soul, whose beginning-of-combat explore triggers turn every Merfolk on the battlefield into a source of card selection and +1/+1 growth. Hakbal also functions as ramp-and-draw in the command zone: when he attacks, he puts extra lands into play or draws cards. The plan is to flood the board with cheap Merfolk, multiply explore triggers with cards like Roaming Throne and Topography Tracker, pump the team with lords and counter-doublers, then break through with islandwalk lords or Herald of Secret Streams. The deck has no infinite combos; it wins through overwhelming combat damage and a backup Simic Ascendancy counter-based victory.
