Deck overview

This Golgari deck uses Meren of Clan Nel Toth to pilot a relentless Aristocrats and reanimation strategy. The game plan focuses on rapid early mana acceleration through one-drop mana elves, deploying Meren on turn 3, and immediately building experience counters by sacrificing utility creatures. Once assembled, the deck establishes a suffocating attrition lock using recurring edict creatures like Plaguecrafter and Fleshbag Marauder, amplified by symmetric sacrifice punishers such as Dictate of Erebos and Tergrid, God of Fright. Because Meren's reanimation triggers every end step for zero mana, the deck steadily exhausts opposing resources while maintaining full card advantage. Victory is achieved through repeated drain loops using Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Kokusho, the Evening Star, or overwhelming combat damage following a mass reanimation with Living Death. While the deck lacks noncreature stack interaction and instant-speed tutors, its dense redundancy, resilient recursion, and crushing board control make it a formidable grind engine.
