Deck overview

Smeagol, Helpful Guide is a Golgari land-steal midrange deck. The primary plan is to ramp into Smeagol, trigger a Ring temptation each turn, and repeatedly put opponents' lands onto our battlefield while sending the rest of their cards to the graveyard. This feeds landfall payoffs like Rampaging Baloths, Tireless Provisioner, and Lotus Cobra, and it quickly builds the mana needed for End-Raze Forerunners or a huge Exsanguinate. The secondary plan is straightforward green creature beatdown with Bears and Wolves, supported by recursion and protection. Smeagol is an acceleration engine rather than a combo piece; without him the deck loses its fastest ramp but can still ramp normally and smash with overrun effects. There is no DFC commander and no hidden commander.
