Commander: Toshiro Umezawa

Bracket: 4

Deck overview

Toshiro Umezawa leads a mono-black control-combo deck. The main plan is to trade efficient removal and edicts while Toshiro's dies trigger recurs instants from the graveyard, creating enormous card advantage. The actual kill is compact: Chain of Smog plus Professor Onyx creates unlimited Magecraft triggers, draining each opponent for 2 life. Secondary paths use Cabal Coffers, Urborg, Crypt Ghast, and Black Market to generate huge mana for Torment of Hailfire or Exsanguinate. The deck also packs Bolas's Citadel, reanimation spells, and top-deck engines so it can grind through disruption. Toshiro is not necessary for the combo, but he is the engine that keeps the game stable until it assembles.
