Deck overview

This mono-blue tempo deck is led by Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive, which makes all creatures with power or toughness 1 or less unblockable. The strategy pairs Tetsuko's evasion with cheap infect and toxic creatures such as Blighted Agent, Ichorclaw Myr, and Dune Mover to quickly apply poison counters to opponents. Once the table is poisoned, the deck transitions into a spell-based attrition plan using proliferation engines like Inexorable Tide, Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus, and Contagion Engine. Rather than relying on large combat swings, the deck ticks poison counters upward using cantrips and activated abilities while holding up an efficient suite of counterspells and bounce effects to protect its board and disrupt opposing wins.
