Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black spellslinger control strategy commanded by Toshiro Umezawa. The primary game plan revolves around policing the battlefield with an extensive suite of low-cost instant-speed removal spells. Whenever an opponent's creature dies, Toshiro triggers to allow casting an instant directly from the graveyard, effectively doubling the value of every kill spell, combat trick, and card draw instant in the 99. The deck leverages this attrition engine to control opponent board states while hitting consistent land drops and assembling mana multipliers such as Cabal Coffers, Crypt Ghast, and Bubbling Muck. Once sufficient mana is gathered, the deck closes the game by casting an overwhelming Torment of Hailfire or Exsanguinate, or by swinging the board decisively with mass reanimation cards like Thrilling Encore. It excels at grinding down creature-centric strategies while building toward a decisive one-turn finish.
