Deck overview

This Grixis midrange deck is led by Sauron, the Dark Lord, combining Wraith tribal synergy with the Ring-tempting mechanic and token generation. Early turns focus on establishing mana acceleration through 2-CMC rocks and deploying utility enchantments like Call of the Ring or Dreadhorde Invasion. Once Sauron enters the battlefield on Turn 5, he taxes opponent interaction with a severe Ward cost and generates Orc Army tokens whenever opponents cast spells. In combat, connecting with an Army triggers the Ring tempts you ability, allowing Sauron to repeatedly discard depleted hands and draw four cards. The deck leverages nine copies of Nazgûl that grow whenever the Ring tempts you, backed by Lord of the Nazgûl to create evasive Wraith tokens and Mirkwood Bats to drain opponents on token creation. Supported by flexible countermagic and removal, the deck converts high combat pressure and end-step drain into a reliable table finish by Turn 8.
