Deck overview

This mono-red control and burn deck leverages aggressive nonbasic land denial to stall opposing game plans while building toward massive lethal damage spells. Led by Zhao, the Moon Slayer, the deck forces nonbasic lands to enter tapped and punishes greedy mana bases using redundant lock pieces such as Blood Moon, Magus of the Moon, Winter Moon, and Ruination. Operating with 34 basic Mountains, the deck breaks parity on all land hate effects. Mana velocity is accelerated through low-cost rocks and explosive rituals like Seething Song and Mana Geyser. Once opponents are constrained in mana and chipped down by continuous attrition effects like Manabarbs, Sulfuric Vortex, and Sunspine Lynx, the deck closes the game with high-powered burn spells including Crackle with Power, Comet Storm, and Jaya's Immolating Inferno. It excels at punishing multicolor mana bases but relies heavily on natural draws due to limited card advantage.
