Deck overview

This deck is the unmodified Commander 2020 Arcane Whirlwind preconstructed list led by Kalamax, the Stormsire. It operates as a reactive Temur spellslinger deck that seeks to cast instants on opponents' turns while its commander is tapped. Once Kalamax attacks, it copies the first instant cast each turn, accumulating +1/+1 counters while doubling the value of cantrips, ramp spells, and interaction. Support permanents like Talrand, Sky Summoner, Murmuring Mystic, and Xyris, the Writhing Storm translate spell casts into a wide token army, while mana engines like Wilderness Reclamation ensure mana remains open for reactive turns. Without dedicated infinite copy combos or instant-speed tutors, the deck pursues a traditional combat and burn finish, scaling Kalamax with Strength of the Tajuru or Kessig Wolf Run to eliminate opponents over multiple attack steps. It offers robust casual card flow and flexible interaction, balanced by tapland friction and vulnerability to sweepers.
