Deck overview

This deck is an Abzan Lifegain Drain Combo deck commanded by Bilbo, Birthday Celebrant. It accelerates early mana with low-cost mana dorks like Birds of Paradise and Delighted Halfling to establish early lifegain engines such as Soul Warden, Auriok Champion, and Archivist of Oghma. These cards steadily pad your life total while activating taxing and attrition pieces like Kambal, Consul of Allocation and Sheoldred, the Apocalypse. The primary path to victory is a deterministic infinite drain loop combining Exquisite Blood or Bloodthirsty Conqueror with a lifegain-triggered drain piece such as Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, Dina, Soul Steeper, Enduring Tenacity, or Sanguine Bond. Once assembled on Turn 5, any single instance of life gain or damage drains all opponents to zero in the same turn. Powerful protection spells including Grand Abolisher, Silence, Flare of Fortitude, and Teferi's Protection shield the combo turn, while cheap recursion like Reanimate ensures resilient engine recovery.
