Deck overview

Hakbal of the Surging Soul is a single-faced commander and the deck's primary engine: every Merfolk explores at the start of combat, turning attack steps into +1/+1 counters, land drops, and card draw. The main plan is a Simic Merfolk go-wide strategy supported by lords, token makers, and a deep draw package. Secondary paths are Simic Ascendancy's counter win and a Wanderwine Prophets extra-turn chain. There is no hidden commander; Growing Rites of Itlimoc is only a transforming land. The deck wants Hakbal down by turn four, then Herald of Secret Streams to swing a heavily countered board past blockers and convert that board into victory.
