Commander: Vren, the Relentless

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

Vren, the Relentless transforms the classic Dimir sacrifice-control archetype into a relentless Rat-token engine. The deck's primary game plan is to force opponents to sacrifice creatures repeatedly, exiling those creatures with Vren's replacement effect, then amassing a critical mass of Rat tokens at each end step. The commander is the lynchpin: without him, the exile-into-tokens payoff vanishes, but the deck still has a functional control shell. The 99 packs a dense suite of edicts, board wipes, counterspells, and instant-speed removal to clear the board and protect Vren. The win condition is overwhelmingly combat damage from a Rat army that grows larger each turn, supplemented by drain effects from Braids, Arisen Nightmare and Rankle, Master of Pranks. There are no infinite combos - the deck leans on incremental value and inevitability.
