Deck overview

This Dimir deck is helmed by Jon Irenicus, Shattered One, focusing on a 'bad gifts' and goad attrition strategy. The deck curves out by casting cheap evasive creatures or creatures with crippling drawbacks—such as Flesh Reaver, Demonic Taskmaster, and Evil Eye of Orms-by-Gore—and then deploying Jon Irenicus on Turn 4. At the end of each turn, Jon donates one of these creatures to an opponent, permanently goading it, boosting its power with two +1/+1 counters, and preventing it from being sacrificed. As opponents are forced to attack each other with these dangerous threats, Jon draws a steady stream of cards to fuel the pilot's hand. The table's life totals are rapidly depleted through forced combat and severe upkeep triggers. Once opponents have softened each other up, the deck closes the game around Turn 8 using unblockable attackers, mass bounce resets, or a lethal Exsanguinate.
