Deck overview

Zaxara, the Exemplary is the deck's engine and payoff. The primary plan is to ramp into Zaxara, then use its mana ability and X-spells to flood the board with huge Hydra tokens. The cleanest finish is a compact infinite-mana combo: attach Pemmin's Aura or Freed from the Real to Zaxara, generate unlimited blue, and kill with Exsanguinate or a giant Finale of Revelation. Along the way, counter doublers such as Corpsejack Menace and Kami of Whispered Hopes let X-spells explode; Simic Ascendancy offers a second, unrelated win condition. There is no hidden commander; every card feeds the X-matters shell. The deck remains functional if Zaxara is answered, but loses most of its velocity.
