Deck overview

This Gruul deck is an aggressive beatdown strategy led by Toph, Greatest Earthbender. The deck leverages the Earthbend mechanic to turn lands into resilient, hasty 0/0 creatures augmented with +1/+1 counters. Because Toph grants all land creatures double strike, every animated land represents an immediate threat. A dense suite of 1- and 2-CMC ramp spells allows Toph to enter on Turn 3 and attack for 8 double-striking damage right away. The mid-game amplifies this combat pressure using counter multipliers such as Innkeeper's Talent and Kalonian Hydra, alongside damage amplifiers like Uncivil Unrest. Extra combat engines like Bumi, Unleashed and Moraug, Fury of Akoum close out the table across Turns 6 and 7. Earthbent lands naturally recur to the battlefield tapped if destroyed or exiled, giving the deck excellent resilience against board wipes, while protection spells like Deflecting Swat and Heroic Intervention keep Toph safe.
