Deck overview

This mono-black deck is built entirely around Tergrid, God of Fright's ability to steal permanents opponents sacrifice or discard. The game plan is to deploy a dense suite of symmetrical sacrifice and discard effects-Fleshbag Marauder, Plaguecrafter, Thoughtseize, Awaken the Erstwhile-then use Tergrid to claim the best cards from opponents' graveyards. The deck also runs value engines like Waste Not and Phyrexian Arena to sustain pressure, and finishers such as Torment of Hailfire and Bolas's Citadel to close out games. Without Tergrid on the battlefield, the deck loses its primary payoff, making her essential to the strategy.
