Deck overview

Ardbert, Warrior of Darkness leads an Orzhov midrange aggro deck combining legendary creature density with +1/+1 counter synergies. The core game plan focuses on curving low-cost legendary creatures into Ardbert on turn 3, then leveraging multicolored Orzhov spells to trigger both halves of Ardbert's ability—distributing dual +1/+1 counters while granting vigilance and menace to the entire legendary squad. The deck accelerates board development through historic synergies such as Relic of Legends and Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle, while drawing cards via combat connections and legendary-cast triggers like Venat, Heart of Hydaelyn and Yathan Tombguard. A wide, evasive board state pressures opponents starting around turn 6, backed by broad Orzhov spot removal and one-sided wipes like Urza's Ruinous Blast. Resilience mechanics including Ratadrabik of Urborg and Together Forever help insulate key pieces against removal, allowing the deck to close games across consecutive combat phases.
