Deck overview

This Sultai deck is helmed by Zaxara, the Exemplary, focusing on big mana, +1/+1 counters, and scaling X-spells. The game plan centers on ramping early to cast Zaxara on Turn 3, untapping on Turn 4 to produce double mana, and chaining massive X-cost spells that create complementary X/X Hydra tokens. The deck amplifies its mana velocity with synergistic pieces like Elementalist's Palette, Kami of Whispered Hopes, Doubling Cube, and Unbound Flourishing. Rather than relying on infinite untap loops, the deck generates legitimate large mana pools to cast game-ending finishers on Turn 6, such as Torment of Hailfire, Exsanguinate, or Finale of Devastation with full-board haste and trample. A robust suite of counter-focused protection spells—including Heroic Intervention, Mutational Advantage, Tyvar's Stand, and Change of Plans—keeps Zaxara and its Hydra army safe from opposing spot removal and sweepers.
