Deck overview

This mono-blue control deck uses The Watcher in the Water to generate defensive Tentacle tokens and lock down opposing threats while building up mana. The strategy relies on surviving the early turns with counterspells and card-filtering spells before deploying massive Krakens, Leviathans, Octopuses, and Serpents. Once established, one-sided board wipes like Whelming Wave and Scourge of Fleets clear opposing blockers, allowing evasive beaters like Stormtide Leviathan, Serpent of Yawning Depths, and Tromokratis to close out the game through combat damage. The deck excels at grinding out card advantage in late-game scenarios using Consecrated Sphinx, Nezahal, Primal Tide, and Hullbreaker Horror. However, its high average mana curve and lack of low-cost acceleration make it vulnerable to aggressive starts and fast combo decks before its heavy control pieces come online.
