Deck overview

This deck executes a focused Merfolk tribal strategy led by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. It curves out early with low-mana Merfolk to establish a wide board presence. Once Hakbal enters the battlefield, its combat trigger activates mass explore across the entire team, filtering the library, drawing excess lands, and buffing attackers with +1/+1 counters. The deck accelerates mana by playing additional lands from hand and stacks powerful lords alongside counter multipliers like Branching Evolution and Topography Tracker. It closes games through combat damage, leveraging unblockable effects from Herald of Secret Streams or clearing opposing blockers with Wave Goodbye. The deck sustains long games through strong draw engines such as Seafloor Oracle and Svyelun of Sea and Sky, supported by key defensive spells like Ripples of Potential to preserve its accumulated board presence.
