Deck overview

This Simic deck centers on Xolatoyac, the Smiling Flood, combining +1/+1 counter scaling, islandwalk evasion, and sea monster finishers. The early game focuses on land and artifact ramp to deploy Xolatoyac by Turn 5. Once on the battlefield, Xolatoyac places flood counters on lands and untaps every permanent with a counter at each end step. This untap ability effectively grants vigilance to modified attackers while untapping mana sources to hold up reactive counterspells like Voidslime and Mystic Snake. The mid-to-late game converts this resource engine into overwhelming combat pressure using counter doublers like Branching Evolution and Court of Garenbrig, alongside unblockable evasion from Herald of Secret Streams and islandwalk lords. Asymmetric board resets such as Wave Goodbye clear away opposing blockers while keeping the deck's modified threats intact for a multi-turn combat finish.
