Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black Aristocrats engine led by Avacyn, Angel of Horror. The strategy focuses on establishing early mana acceleration and sacrifice outlets alongside potent card-draw engines. In the midgame, the deck leverages asymmetric death triggers to dismantle opposing creature boards with cards like Grave Pact, Dictate of Erebos, and Accursed Marauder. Meanwhile, drain payoffs such as Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, and Bastion of Remembrance steadily diminish opponent life totals. High-impact finishers including Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Kokusho, the Evening Star, and Rottenmouth Viper apply overwhelming pressure and drain tables in large chunks. While Avacyn, Angel of Horror provides an 8/8 flying deathtouch body that automatically returns sacrificed nontoken creatures at each end step, the deck functions smoothly without casting its commander. The list excels at creature attrition, grindy card advantage, and resilient recursion, though it remains vulnerable to noncreature combo decks, dedicated graveyard hate, and artifact-heavy strategies.
