Lizard Brained by nightflier

Commander: Gilanra, Caller of Wirewood and Alena, Kessig Trapper

Bracket: 2

Deck overview

This deck is a straightforward Gruul "big mana, big creatures" strategy helmed by the partner pair Gilanra, Caller of Wirewood and Alena, Kessig Trapper. The game plan is to ramp early, deploy giant threats, and overwhelm opponents with raw power. Gilanra provides a mana dork that also draws cards when you cast spells with mana value 6 or greater, while Alena generates explosive red mana by tapping for an amount equal to the greatest power among creatures you control that entered the turn. The deck packs a high density of 6-8 mana creatures like Drakuseth, Maw of Flames, Hydra Omnivore, and Scourge of the Throne, aiming to close games through repeated combat damage. There are no infinite combos; the deck relies on sheer size, trample enablers, and the occasional extra combat from Scourge of the Throne to push through lethal damage. It includes limited interaction (a few fight effects and mass artifact/enchantment destruction), but lacks counterspells and stack-based protection, making it vulnerable to disruption.
