Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black midrange engine that uses Gwenom, Remorseless to convert life into card advantage and board presence. The primary strategy focuses on deploying Gwenom, attacking to activate her top-deck casting ability, and paying life rather than mana to swarm the battlefield with creatures and utility spells. Lifelink on Gwenom and supplemental lifegain pieces (Prism Ring, Diamond Mare, Blood Artist) sustain your life total while you cast spells from the top of your library. The deck protects its commander using low-mana death-redirection spells such as Not Dead After All and Undying Evil. Offensively, the list wins through cumulative combat damage and aristocrat-style drain triggers from Marauding Blight-Priest, Defiant Bloodlord, and Al Bhed Salvagers, backed by late-game finishers like Rise of the Dark Realms and Exsanguinate. It excels at creature removal and resilient board presence, though it remains vulnerable to mass exile effects and noncreature combo strategies.
