Deck overview

This deck is a Grixis spellslinger group-slug strategy led by Kess, Dissident Mage. Rather than pursuing traditional infinite combos, it deploys a dense array of low-cost pingers, damage multipliers, and cost-reducers to weaponize every instant and sorcery cast. Early turns focus on establishing a mana foundation with talismans and 2-CMC creatures such as Firebrand Archer, Electrostatic Field, and Stormcatch Mentor. As the game progresses into the midgame, engines like Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph, Veyran, Voice of Duality, Birgi, God of Storytelling, and Fiery Inscription drastically amplify damage output. Kess, Dissident Mage acts as a reliable value engine from the command zone, allowing critical draw spells, rituals, and burn spells to be cast a second time directly from the graveyard. The deck finishes games through explosive storm-like turns, chaining cheap cantrips and symmetric burn spells such as Flame Rift, Price of Progress, and scaled Earthquake effects to eliminate all three opponents simultaneously.
