Garland - Let me take your subjects! by ClyDeft

Format: Commander

Commander: Garland, Royal Kidnapper

Bracket: 4

Deck overview

This Dimir deck is a theft-and-monarch strategy helmed by Garald, Royal Kidnapper. The core loop is elegant: Garald's ETB crowns an opponent monarch, and every time the crown changes hands, he steals a creature from the new monarch - and stolen creatures get +2/+2 and can't be sacrificed. The 99 is packed with overlapping theft and copy effects (Agent of Treachery, Gilded Drake, Hostage Taker, Bribery, Sepulchral Primordial, Spark Double, Taskmaster, Mercenary Mimic) and "play your opponent's cards" engines (Thief of Sanity, Fallen Shinobi, Grima, Saruman's Footman, Dauthi Voidwalker, Gix, Yawgmoth Praetor, Dream Harvest). It wins by grinding out card advantage, stealing the table's best threats, and closing with combat damage or a mass-reanimation haymaker like Rise of the Dark Realms. Draw engines Rhystic Study and Consecrated Sphinx keep the gas flowing.
