Horrible Horobi by user4740315

Format: Commander

Commander: Horobi, Death's Wail

Bracket: 2

Deck overview

This mono-black deck is built around Horobi, Death's Wail, turning every targeting spell or ability into a one-sided board wipe. The strategy is to deploy cheap instant-speed targeting effects-Defile, Darkblast, Cut Down, Nowhere to Run-to destroy any creature that becomes a target, while also using abilities like Hex Parasite and Unspeakable Symbol to trigger Horobi on demand. The deck supplements this with a robust recursion package (Reanimate, Animate Dead, Victimize) and drain effects (Blood Artist, Vein Ripper) to convert creature deaths into life loss. It wins through attrition, grinding opponents down with repeated removal, stealing creatures via Grave Betrayal, and finishing with large threats like Vilis, Broker of Blood or Mortivore. The commander is the linchpin of the control engine, but the deck can pivot to a value-based reanimator plan if Horobi is repeatedly answered.
