Bess, Soul Nourisher leads a Selesnya creature-token deck that turns 1/1 creatures into counters and combat damage. The deck develops with mana creatures, land tutors, and efficient token makers such as Torens, Fist of the Angels, Adeline, Resplendent Cathar, Maja, Bretagard Protector, and Scute Swarm. Bess rewards the deck for making small creatures, while Beastmaster Ascension, Cathars' Crusade, Champion of Lambholt, Intangible Virtue, and Sphere Grid convert a wide board into a lethal attack. The deck can usually assemble its basic engine around turn 5 and present a critical combat board around turn 7. Its expected finish is around turn 9 when attackers connect and a payoff is available.
