Deck overview

Built exclusively around the mechanics and flavor of the Amonkhet block, this deck operates as a thematic Rakdos -1/-1 counter attrition engine helmed by The Scorpion God. The strategy focuses on distributing -1/-1 counters across opposing creatures to control the battlefield, converting creature deaths into card advantage through the commander's triggered ability. Key synergy pieces like Nest of Scarabs generate an expanding insect army whenever counters are placed, while Archfiend of Ifnir leverages cycling cards to decimate opposing boards asymmetrically. Lacking off-plane fast mana or generic tutors, the deck plays a deliberate midrange game, developing its mana base through Deserts and cost reducers like Bontu's Monument and Hazoret's Monument. Once the board is subdued through targeted removal, sweepers like Hour of Devastation, and persistent counter placement, the deck converts its board presence into victory via wide token assaults, life drain from Plague Belcher, and late-game finishers like Torment of Hailfire and Cut // Ribbons.
