Deck overview

This deck is a synergistic Rakdos big-mana and burn-storm strategy centered on Smaug the Impenetrable. Smaug combines flying, haste, and indestructible with a triggered ability that creates Treasure tokens whenever it takes noncombat damage. The deck accelerates through dense 2-CMC mana rocks and rituals such as Dark Ritual, Geosurge, and Irencrag Feat to deploy Smaug on Turn 4. Once Smaug enters the battlefield, the deck targets it with self-damage spells like Cut Propulsion and Kiku's Shadow or asymmetric sweepers like Blasphemous Act and Star of Extinction. These effects generate between 8 and 20 Treasure tokens in a single action while clearing opposing creature boards. The resulting mana surge fuels game-ending outlets, including artifact drain triggers from Ingenious Artillerist, Mirkwood Bats, and Marionette Apprentice, or a massive Exsanguinate. A dedicated suite of free and low-cost redirection spells, such as Deflecting Swat and Not of This World, protects Smaug from targeted exile removal.
