Deck overview

This deck is an Orzhov Aristocrats and attrition combo strategy led by Athreos, God of Passage. The game plan revolves around deploying cheap recursive creatures and token generators, then sacrificing them through engines like Ashnod's Altar, Warren Soultrader, and Yawgmoth, Thran Physician. Athreos taxes opponents with 3 life whenever your creatures die or returns them to your hand, creating compounding resource pressure. The deck controls the board with asymmetric sacrifice effects from Grave Pact and Dictate of Erebos, denying opponents creature presence. Mana rituals and death triggers generate large mana pools to fuel game-ending sorceries such as Torment of Hailfire and Debt to the Deathless, or assemble the infinite life-drain loop of Sanguine Bond and Exquisite Blood. With high functional redundancy and resilient recursion, the deck outlasts opposing interaction and closes the game across Turns 5 to 6.
