Deck overview

This deck is a Gruul Landfall and 'play-from-exile' midrange stompy list led by Hugs, Grisly Guardian. The core strategy focuses on accelerating mana during the early turns using dense 1–3 CMC ramp spells and extra land drop enablers. On Turn 4, the deck deploys Hugs or a similar engine to exile cards for impulsive card advantage while increasing land velocity. On Turn 5, it transitions into threat deployment by casting massive landfall payoff creatures like Avenger of Zendikar, Omnath, Locus of Rage, Scute Swarm, and Moraug, Fury of Akoum. These threats quickly generate wide armies or multiple combat steps, aiming to eliminate the table on Turn 6 through overwhelming combat damage. While the deck possesses remarkable mana acceleration and engine resilience thanks to its land-centric mana base, it runs minimal instant-speed interaction and protection spells, making it vulnerable to well-timed board sweepers and fast combo strategies.
