Rowan by Frownbear

Format: Commander

Commander: Rowan, Scion of War

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

Rowan, Scion of War is the engine of a life-payment burn deck. The primary plan is to lose a large amount of life during the first main phase, tap Rowan, and then cast black/red spells at a huge discount, usually an X spell such as Exsanguinate or Torment of Hailfire to kill the table. Secondary paths combine Bloodletter of Aclazotz with Peer into the Abyss or Shard of the Nightbringer for a two-card kill, and Cabal Coffers/Crypt Ghast provide a slower big-mana X-spell route. Rowan is the only commander face; the prepared DFCs are utility tutor/draw spells, not a hidden commander. The deck is comfortable spending life because Rowan converts every point into mana discount.
