hydras

Format: Commander

Commander: Zaxara, the Exemplary

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

Zaxara, the Exemplary is the engine and payload of this Hydra deck. The primary plan is to ramp into Zaxara, then use spells with {X} in their cost to create free Hydra tokens while stacking counter multipliers such as Hardened Scales, Doubling Season, and Corpsejack Menace. Secondary wins come from a copied Torment of Hailfire, a huge Finale of Devastation, or an unblockable combat swing with Herald of Secret Streams. Utility X spells draw cards and answer permanents. The commander's tap ability and cast trigger are central; without her the deck can still cast X spells and use counter synergies, but at a much lower ceiling. The plan is flexible and resilient to single-target removal, though it can be set back by sweepers.
