Deck overview

This deck is a Simic Merfolk tribal strategy led by Hakbal of the Surging Soul, focusing on +1/+1 counter distribution, deep library exploration, and overwhelming combat evasion. The game plan opens with low-cost Merfolk and mana acceleration before casting Hakbal on Turn 3 or 4. Once assembled, Hakbal triggers explore for every Merfolk at the start of combat, rapidly expanding creature stats while filtering land cards directly into hand and onto the battlefield. The deck converts this board presence into a decisive threat by Turn 6 using evasion enablers like Herald of Secret Streams, Master of the Pearl Trident, and Mist Dancer, or via asymmetric board wipes such as Wave Goodbye. Supporting engines like Branching Evolution and Topography Tracker accelerate power scaling, while Ripples of Potential and Inspiring Call defend against sweepers. Although it lacks fast combo finishes and creature tutors, the deck exerts sustained combat pressure and robust card flow.
