Deck overview

This deck is a flavorful, exhibition-style Grixis Midrange and Control build centered around Nicol Bolas and the Amonkhet block storyline. It eschews generic high-power staples in favor of mechanical synergy utilizing Cycling, Afflict, Eternalize, Amass, -1/-1 counters, and Deserts. The game plan focuses on controlling the early board with damage-based sweepers and targeted removal while developing mana through natural land drops. In the midgame, it deploys Nicol Bolas, the Ravager alongside the powerful Amonkhet Gods—The Scarab God, The Locust God, and The Scorpion God—to strip opponent resources and establish a dominant board presence. Victory is achieved through sustained combat pressure from 4/4 Zombie tokens and Insect swarms, passive drain triggers from The Scarab God and Plague Belcher, and large mana sinks like Torment of Hailfire. The deck excels at flavorful engine resilience but operates at a measured, battlecruiser-style pace.
