Deck overview

This Orzhov deck is commanded by Scriv, the Obligator and focuses on an Aura-based pillowfort and forced-combat strategy. Early turns deploy cost-reducers and enchantress engines like Sram, Senior Edificer and Killian, Ink Duelist to accelerate resource velocity. By Turn 4, the deck deploys Scriv or key support permanents to begin attaching Contract tokens and goad Auras to opposing threats. This forces opponents to attack one another, draining their life totals and keeping attacks away from you. The mid-game capitalizes on high-synergy payoffs such as Eriette of the Charmed Apple, which accelerates the table-wide life drain, and Archon of Sun's Grace, which creates an evasive flying army. Defensive measures like Ghostly Prison, Inkshield, and ward-granting Auras shield your life total and key permanents. The deck closes games around Turn 8 through accumulated drain triggers and evasive airborne damage as opposing boards exhaust themselves.
