Deck overview

This deck is an Abzan midrange combo strategy centered on Betor, Ancestor's Voice, which converts life total fluctuations into board presence. The deck treats life total as an active resource, deliberately paying life through cards like Sylvan Library, Black Market Connections, Doom Whisperer, and painlands to trigger Betor's end-step ability and reanimate creatures for free. Concurrently, lifegain triggers place massive +1/+1 counters across your board to build formidable attackers. While capable of winning through overwhelming combat damage with Archangel of Thune, Blossoming Bogbeast, or Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord, the primary win condition is an infinite life-drain combo between Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose and Bloodthirsty Conqueror. Supported by efficient graveyard tutors like Buried Alive and Entomb, versatile removal, and resilient protection spells, the list delivers high velocity and robust recovery.
