Deck overview

This deck leverages Smaug the Magnificent as a fast, aggressive commander that converts a growing hoard of Treasures into lethal direct damage. The game plan focuses on deploying early Treasure producers and cost reducers, casting Smaug with natural haste on Turn 4, and scaling damage with damage doublers and Dragon payoffs. Cards like Xorn, Goldspan Dragon, and Academy Manufactor amplify token generation, turning each attack trigger into a massive burn spell that removes blockers or burns opponents directly. The deck closes games rapidly across Turns 6 and 7 using additional combat phases from Aggravated Assault, overwhelming aerial swarms from Utvara Hellkite, or alternate artifact win conditions via Hellkite Tyrant. While vulnerable to artifact sweepers and lacking enchantment removal, the deck's high velocity, redundant threats, and targeted protection create a resilient, high-tempo red midrange strategy.
