Deck overview

This mono-black deck leverages 20 copies of Shadowborn Apostle to cheat formidable Demon threats directly from the library onto the battlefield. Low-cost ramp accelerates early Apostle deployment, enabling a Turn 4 tutor activation. The Demon package offers situational answers and closing power: Archfiend of Depravity controls opposing creature boards, Lord of the Void steals opposing threats, Dreadfeast Demon rapidly multiplies flying power, and Pestilence Demon wipes smaller creatures while burning life totals. Supporting cards like Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, and Pitiless Plunderer turn mass sacrifices into direct damage and mana velocity, while Taborax, Hope's Demise and Skullclamp refill the hand. Commander Avacyn, Angel of Horror serves as an 8-mana top-end engine that recurs every dying nontoken creature on each end step. Although vulnerable to graveyard hate, instant-speed creature exile, and a lack of stack interaction, the deck presents consistent mid-game pressure and resilient reanimation lines.
