Deck overview

This deck is a specialized Grixis combo-control list centered on Mairsil, the Pretender and Necrotic Ooze. The primary game plan uses efficient graveyard tutors like Buried Alive and Entomb to place activated-ability creatures into the graveyard. When Mairsil enters, it exiles these cards with cage counters, inheriting their activated abilities. By exploiting Quicksilver Elemental, Mairsil bypasses its once-per-turn activation restriction, pairing with Gilded Lotus and untap creatures like Horseshoe Crab to generate infinite mana. It then converts this mana into a game-ending burst through Hateflayer or massive card draw with Asmodeus the Archfiend. Alternatively, the deck can establish an oppressive lock by pairing Nevinyrral's Disk with Aetherling, wiping opposing nonland permanents every turn while Mairsil flickers safely out of harm. With Necrotic Ooze serving as an independent backup engine and cage counters persisting across commander recastings, the deck exhibits exceptional resilience and lethality.
