Deck overview

This Golgari deck is commanded by High Perfect Morcant, merging traditional Elf tribal swarm mechanics with asymmetric counter manipulation. The early game focuses on accelerating mana through cheap mana dorks like Llanowar Elves and Woodland Weavemaster before deploying Morcant on Turn 3 or 4. Each subsequent Elf entering the battlefield places -1/-1 blight counters on opposing creatures, which Morcant continuously proliferates by tapping three untapped Elves. As opposing boards are dismantled through persistent counter placement and efficient removal spells like Pick Your Poison and Collective Resistance, the deck scales its own threats using +1/+1 counter engines, Renata, Called to the Hunt, and overrun effects like Tajuru Warcaller. While the deck excels at creature attrition and wide board development, its reliance on untapping with multiple creatures makes it vulnerable to mass board wipes, requiring careful timing with recursion pieces like Gruesome Menagerie to sustain its mid-game combat clock.
