Deck overview

This deck operates as a high-powered mono-black stax and combo engine built around Maralen of the Mornsong. Casting Maralen alone gives opponents free tutors, so the deck treats her as a secondary lock piece rather than an early play. The primary game plan slows opponents with disruptive stax artifacts like Trinisphere, Cursed Totem, and Grafdigger's Cage while racing toward compact win lines. The main win condition is the two-card combo of Bloodchief Ascension and Mindcrank, which causes an infinite life loss and mill loop whenever a card hits an opponent's graveyard. Alternatively, resolving Opposition Agent alongside Maralen creates a hard lock by stripping opponent searches while stealing their libraries.
