Deck overview

This Golgari deck is an aggressive Voltron strategy centered on Skullbriar, the Walking Grave. The deck capitalizes on Skullbriar's unique ability to retain counters across death, exile, and command zone transitions. By casting Skullbriar on Turn 2, the deck immediately begins accumulating +1/+1 counters through haste attacks. The 99 is heavily tuned to amplify this growth using counter doublers like Corpsejack Menace, Kalonian Hydra, and Doubling Season, while equipping evasion pieces like Brotherhood Regalia and Commander's Plate to ensure damage connects. Because Skullbriar preserves its power between zone shifts, the deck exhibits format-leading resilience against traditional removal wipes. Secondary threats such as Managorger Hydra and Bristly Bill, Spine Sower provide consistent backup beatdown paths. The deck aims to reach lethal commander thresholds by Turn 5 and systematically eliminate opponents in sequential combat turns.
