Deck overview

This Golgari deck is commanded by Jenova, Ancient Calamity, focusing on a high-synergy +1/+1 counters and aristocrats strategy. Early turns prioritize efficient mana acceleration through low-cost mana dorks and rocks, enabling a Turn 3 or 4 Jenova deployment. At the beginning of combat, Jenova distributes counters based on its power and designates targets as Mutants. When these Mutants die, Jenova refills the hand with cards equal to their power. The deck compounds this advantage using counter doublers like Corpsejack Menace, Branching Evolution, and The Earth Crystal, while converting high power into massive mana through Kami of Whispered Hopes and Selvala, Heart of the Wilds. Lethal combat pressure is achieved through trample enablers like Kodama of the West Tree and mass doubling from Kalonian Hydra, alongside direct burn from Psychosis Crawler. While vulnerable to mass sweepers due to thin reactive shielding, its deep internal redundancy and reanimation provide steady resilience.
