Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black control and combo build commanded by Horobi, Death's Wail. The primary game plan weaponizes Horobi's symmetrical trigger—destroying any creature that becomes the target of a spell or ability—by pairing it with cheap, repeatable targeting permanents like Squee's Toy, Distorting Lens, Tooth of Chiss-Goria, and Cauldron of Souls. This allows the deck to repeatedly clear opposing creatures at instant speed for little to no mana, while anti-hexproof pieces like Nowhere to Run and Arcane Lighthouse ensure no opposing threats can hide. Behind this oppressive creature denial, the deck uses card draw engines such as Morbid Opportunist and Harvester of Souls to dig into its compact primary win condition: Professor Onyx combined with Chain of Smog. Once both pieces are assembled on Turn 6, repeatedly copying Chain of Smog targeting yourself triggers Magecraft infinitely, draining all opponents to zero life in a single turn.
