Deck overview

This Golgari deck is centered on Hazel of the Rootbloom, utilizing Squirrel and Food tokens to generate explosive mana and duplicate wide boards. Early turns focus on establishing low-cost token generators and mana rocks to deploy Hazel on turn 4. Once assembled, Hazel duplicates tokens each end step—granting double value for Squirrels—and turns the entire token board into mana acceleration. Mid-game turns scale the creature count rapidly through cards like Chatterfang, Squirrel General, Deep Forest Hermit, and Chitterspitter. The deck transitions into a lethal threat around turn 6 by hardcasting massive overrun payoffs like Craterhoof Behemoth, End-Raze Forerunners, or activating Beastmaster Ascension. Incidental life drain from Bastion of Remembrance and Zulaport Cutthroat provides reaching damage to punish board wipes. While highly resilient in rebuilding creature counts, the deck is vulnerable to sweepers due to a lack of instant-speed phase-out or indestructible protection.
