Deck overview

This deck is a Golgari goad and aristocrats engine commanded by Rendmaw, Creaking Nest. Its strategy revolves around casting cards with two or more card types—including artifact creatures, enchantment creatures, artifact lands, and kindred spells—to flood the battlefield with tapped, goaded 2/2 flying Bird tokens. Because opponents are forced to attack each other with these birds, their life totals fall rapidly while keeping Rendmaw's controller safe from direct assaults. The deck capitalizes on the inevitable bird casualties through symmetrical death triggers like Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, Poison-Tip Archer, and Syr Konrad, the Grim. Card advantage engines such as Species Specialist, Morbid Opportunist, and Pygmy Kavu convert token deaths and opposing boards into massive card draw. Finally, asymmetric sweepers like Massacre Wurm or Doomwake Giant, or an overrun with Triumph of the Hordes, wipe out remaining opposing life totals to close the game decisively.
